  • "I know it sounds boring, but it's the boring stuff I remember most." -Russell, Up

This screencap+subtitle combo got a lot of Likes and Reblogs on Tumblr. At first I couldn't get the enthusiasm over that movie quote, but now I see it's not over the meaning of the line. It's sort of a relief to find company and an explanation to an unexplainable random trait or habit of yours. I mean, who wants to remember and narrate the boring stuff right? If it was boring when it happened, and it's boring in your mind as you rethink it, you'll probably bore your conversational partner as you share it. NOW though, it happens to so many people, and you know that. If they can share the little boring things, so can you. Some sentimental and imaginative readers might even enjoy your little "boring" details right?

Well, that was just an attempt to cover for this rundown of suspenseless events I remembered on the way to USA on to the 1st day here:
    1. It was in NAIA (Manila Philippines) we waited the longest, but I couldn't all asleep. I wasn't in the mood to read my book either. Somehow the time passed, and we were on our way to Tokyo.

    2. I was expecting the excellent waste segregation systems (or at least the waste bins) at Narita Airport, and it didn't disappoint. In fact, the whole airport was just squeaky clean as far as I could see.

    3. Now on to a very "me" thing to share, I had a little girl happy crush on one of the flight attendants from Narita to Detroit. Heck, I didn't bother to find out his name, but he was really crush-able. Haha. Easy on the eyes and on the ears. Plus, it was his job to have excellent manners. *wink*

    4. Now the Narita-Detroit was long, and I had some fragmented sleep hours ranging from 30 to 120 minutes. It wasn't so bad because I was sitting next to an Illinois-native, and she was pleasantly chatty. To add to that, they had good airplane food too. I had tea about 5 times as well.

    5. DETROIT. Detroit Detroit Detroit. I couldn't enjoy the spacious, portal-like, breezy and clean airports (or parts of it) 'cause the line at Immigrations took us more than 40 minutes to accomplish. We were rushing to get our bags, have them re-checked, to go through another X-ray, go about 2 or 3 levels up and make our way to Gate 20+ in less than 10 minutes. We only had about a 1hr 20 minute interval in between our International and Domestic flights. Long story short: We waited long at immigrations, but our running and rushing paid off since we didn't get left behind.

    6. ST. LOUIS. We met our graduate peer mentors today, Drew and Carey. Everyone was still sort of shy. We were conversing in Tagalog, and I felt a bit guilty not speaking in English for them to understand. It's just that Tagalog is our conversational language, but we adjust every now and then to let others in the conversation.

    7. DAIRY QUEEN: Our first resto stop in USA was Dairy Queen. I didn't order anything, but my 2 co-participants soon learned the meaning of AMERICAN SIZE. Yeah they were struggling to finish their "Medium" blizzards even with our help! Haha That was a fun experience.

    8. BOOMER HALL: I like my room. There's so much room. It's my room. I like my room.

    9. MALAYSIANS: They arrived hours after we had settled in, and the first person to introduce herself to me was Fareeza. She, for me, is the most fashionable girl in the SUSI program. :) Just saying. Haha Everyone warmed up to each other a bit fast (surprisingly).

I don't remember much anymore. I don't even know what time I slept, but I'll tell you this. I didn't get much sleep really, even if I wanted too. Internal body clock SUCKS. Haha

I'll do about 4 more Blast-from-the-past posts AND post more photos. Stay tuned.
